Your first stop is the iconic Giza Pyramid Complex, one of the most recognised wonders on Earth and the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient World. Your expert Egyptologist guide will take you through the history of dynastic Egypt as you stand in the shadow of these incomprehensible stone giants. Begin with the Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops), the oldest and largest of the three pyramids, built around 2560 BC. Standing approximately 138 metres tall, Khufu's pyramid was the tallest man-made structure on Earth for over 3,800 years. The guide will explain the engineering genius required to build it with over 2.3 million stone blocks. Continue to the Pyramid of Khafre, Khufu's son, still bearing substantial portions of its original smooth white Tura limestone casing near its peak, giving a vivid impression of how all three pyramids once gleamed in the desert sun. Next, see the Pyramid of Menkaure, the smallest but most artistically refined of the three, with its distinctive pink granite casing stones visible at the base. Then comes the undisputed highlight: the Great Sphinx of Giza.
