The museum highlights Egypt’s continuity and stability through its tangible and intangible heritage. Its exceptional collection includes the royal mummies, displayed using cutting-edge interactive technology that allows visitors to explore beneath the wrappings and discover their secrets, while also shedding light on the rituals and religious beliefs surrounding mummification in ancient Egypt. Next, continue to The Citadel, where you will visit the Alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha. The Citadel of Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi (Saladin) is one of the most iconic landmarks of Islamic Cairo and a masterpiece of medieval military architecture. Situated on the Muqattam Hills, it offers panoramic views of Cairo. The fortress was initially commissioned by Sultan Saladin in 1176 AD and completed during the reign of Sultan al-Kamil ibn al-Adel in 1207 AD. In the mid-19th century, Khedive Ismail moved the official royal residence to Abdeen Palace in downtown Cairo. Afterward, explore Old Cairo (Coptic Cairo), a historically significant area that includes sites visited by the Holy Family. The area is home to the Church of Abu Serga (St. Sergius), St. Barbara Church, the Hanging Church, and the ancient Ben Ezra Synagogue.
